Location Plainfield is located in
Hendricks County in central Indiana. 12 miles west of Indianapolis on U.S. 40.
From Indianapolis' I-465 loop, Chicago, Illinois, is 179 miles; Cincinnati,
Ohio, is 108 miles; and Louisville, Kentucky, is 119 miles (all via interstate
highways). Plainfield residents report an average travel time of 21.6 minutes to

Plainfield owes much of its history to its Quaker settlers,
also know as the Society of Friends. Settlers first reached what is now
Plainfield in 1820- five years before Indianapolis became the state capital and
four years before Hendricks County was formed. |

Council and a Town Manager who is appointed by a board and is under contract. |

Recreation Swinford Park offers playground
equipment, softball diamonds, shelter houses and tennis courts. Franklin Park
offers baseball diamonds, playground equipment, shelter houses and tennis
courts. Anderson Park is home to our new skate park which is open to the public
dawn to dusk during the summer months, after school to dusk and on weekends
during the school year and is closed November through February. Swinford,
Franklin and Anderson Parks are also connected by a portion of Plainfield's
Trail system which is constantly being added to and updated. Hummel Park is
home to our Community Center, and offers a walking/exercise trail, play ground
equipment, basketball courts, a soccer field, fishing, an amphitheatre, softball
diamonds and the High School/Plainfield Patriots baseball diamond. Lovell
Field, on Cinergy property, is home to little league baseball, and the Optimist
football and soccer programs. The middle school indoor swimming pool is open to
the public on a scheduled basis and there are several private clubs and golf
courses in the area. |
